I've just nipped in to Ikea and picked up a Bekvam stool. I needed a little step that would help me reach those higher shelves in the kitchen and for £7.82, this step stool is perfect plus it's just ripe for customising. Check out what these clever people have done to their steps...

I'm veering towards an oilcloth cover for the top and perhaps the second step with a co-ordinating painted base. The oilcloth should be quite durable with children clambering on it. I'll let you know how I get on.
