I've talked a bit lately about my refound love for knitting and some of the things I've been making. I may well have said that I was inspired by the lovely cable knit cushions that are currently omnipresent and knew that I could make my own version for much, much less along with the unmeasurable satisfaction of knowing that I made said cushion myself.
I've been keeping an eye out for other lovely handknit items and I'm amazed by the breadth of skill and the designs around. One of my current favourites is Ruth Cross, who is currently rather well known for being responsible for the chunky mittens that Bella wears in Twilight (they're so popular they even have their own blog). I'm also rather fond of the snug-looking wraps and cable-knit gilets.
The company, headed up by Ruth Bridgeman, has a team of 50 knitters who create the fabulous pieces, and it seems much of it is made to order. I think the nursing chair seen here, recovered in handknitted lambswool is simply fabulous. I see a simple central cable flagged on each side by what I think is a vertical arrow lace pattern and smaller braids and cable. I've never wanted to knit a cover for a chair more. In fact I'm eyeing up the seat pad of the armchair in my living room now and feel a project coming on...

That looks really original and would be lovely in a bedroom. Do you know anyone that has actually subjected the cover to everyday wear and tear? I'd like to try it but am worried it'd stretch out of shape?

The pictured chair is so unique. I never thought knitting would look so nice as upholstery!

London Lisbonite - that would by my concern too. I assumed it had been tacked into place so it won't have the same kind of stretchiness that a handknit jumper might get after time (does that make sense?). Pleae let me know if you try something similar out!

Will do - I suppose one idea would be to put the chair somewhere without a lot of traffic. I want a little armchair for my bathroom so this might be perfect! Trying to think of other things I can cover in knitting now!
