I find myself increasingly drawn towards bright white spaces. I'm not talking clinical but the kind of brilliant white that makes an amazing backdrop for coloured accessories and gives that light-flooded airy look. White, in my eyes is far better than magnolia which has a creamy warmth to it that doesn't lend itself well to bouncing light. It's easy to update, it doesn't offend and everything goes with it.
Let's take a look at some white spaces:
Hus & Hem - it's all about light-filled, open plan living here.
Elle Decor - the neutral backdrop makes the art and pink cushions pop.
Livingetc - texture and colour work well to make a girly space
Apartment Therapy - one of my favourite house tours - the reaction between the crisp white walls and sofa, the sunny yellow cushions and wallpaper and mellow greys is delicious.
How do you feel about white? Is it too cool and clinical for you or do you embrace it?

I like white spaces in theory but in reality - no. I wanted to have white floors but my friend advised me not to as she said my dark hair would show up everywhere. I'm sure she's right.
Thanks for commenting on my blog recently and for tweeting my story today. I can't remember if I commented before but I meant to comment and say that I can't believe you have three children!

Agreed - for me white floors would be a no-no too. I'd be forever washing it thanks to the children and cat.
Every so often I can't quite believe I have three children either!
And you're welcome. I'm enjoying your blog and popped it in the blogroll here :-)

I really like white as a backdrop but I think it depends on the light in the room. I grew up in Lisbon and everything was white and it felt cool and cozy but in the UK I think it can look a bit cold. The trick seems to be to really go to town with accessories and colours. My boyfriend has white floors in his bedroom and hallway and they show every single speck of dust! That said, there's something really relaxing about a house totally furnished in white and lit by candles - I'm not sure how practical it is though!

Cat, I think you've hit the nail on the head. You either have to go completely white or hyper-accessorize with colour. I once refused to look at a house once I'd seen the white floors - I just knew it would be a nightmare for a family.
In my home, the house is painted magnolia - everywhere! Not my choice I assure you! It's such a drain on light.
