New chandelier

I've had this lovely chandelier on my wishlist for ages and ages. Every time I've spotted a capiz shell pendant in a magazine, I've known that I wanted one. And this Laura Ashley chandelier was pretty perfect. But could I justify spending £70 on a pretty lampshade? In short, no.

Then, it happened. It went on sale. Oh, yay! I still ummed and ahhed over a day then decided that I had the money sat in the bank, it was 25% off and by gosh, I'd wanted it for a long time so I splurged and bought it.

 

Pretty! The shells tinkle most beautifully when caught in a breeze (or when I flip the duvet) and I'm sure I'll have it in the house for years. With money off and paying for it there and then, it was a no-guilt purchase. The best kind, don't you think?

I'll note as well, that delivery was swift, it was well packed and I would definately order from Laura Ashley online again.

Laura Ashley Teatime lamp

Isn't this lamp fun? I love it.

I do think the drum shade is a tad boring but that stack of china tea cups base would make a great talking point.

Capiz shell chandelier

Pardon me for another self-indulgent 'wanty wanty want!' post but I do like this light shade.

It's made of pretty creamy capiz shells and whilst I think calling it a chandelier is somewhat of an overdescription, I do think it's lovely (£65 at Laura Ashley).

Bring colour to your garden with an Ikea Solig lantern

I'm really fond of lanterns. I think they're a terrific, not to mention atmospheric, way to light up the garden. However, I'm not so fond of anything that involves a naked flame due to the fire risk, especially if you have children. I snagged the orange Ikea Solig lantern to go in place of a long-dead hanging basket and I'm really thrilled with my choice. Not only does the solar panel ensures it stays lit all night but it's hardwearing (having lasted through this past weekend's storm) and the orange brings a brilliant pop of colour. Not only that but my garden has played natural co-ordinator with some newly bloomed orange lilies and pinky-orange roses right next to the lantern. Did I mention it was £6.99? Bargain.

Cox and Cox's tealight chandelier

I'm not exactly sure how you would hang this tea light chandelier (from a tree? a parasol?) but I think it would look oh so pretty as the day moves towards dusk. It comes with eight coloured glass holders on a rust-effect metal frame for £35 from Cox & Cox.

Whimsical homewares from Rie Elise Larsen

I had the good fortune to walk past Rie Elise Larson's store on Vesterbrogade in Copenhagen yesterday. I didn't manage to get inside as we were on the way to Tivoli Gardens just a few minutes away but I was bowled over by the colouful window displays and the light, airy feel of the store that was chock full of beautiful, feminine homewares.

 

My quick-take-a-photo! snap isn't so great (can you see my reflection?) but doesn't Rie Elise Larson's store look inviting?

I really like these pleated paper lampshades with the little ribbon ties. They can be paired up with different lampbases to make a bespoke look. The shades cost 195Kr-250Kr each.

The pillows are also super cute. The mismatched look can look really great and I love the way they're called pillows, like the Americans do, rather than cushions. It makes them sound squashier.

 

The paper art would make a great addition to lampshades, as window decor or hung in a surprising little nook somewhere in the home. They aren't very expensive at around 55-75Kr.

 

And these blue stoneware little vases would look fabulous for a dinner or on a window ledge. Don't forget the blooms!

Beach ball lights at TOBYHouse

Aren't these lights fun? The brightly coloured light fixtures have taken inspiration from beach balls and are part of the new range from TOBYHouse. Wouldn't they look great in a beach house?

Light up a Moroccan lantern

I like the idea of lanterns, the twinkling lights and pretty designs really add to the ambience of an outdoor party as it moves into evening.

This Moroccan style lantern with its domed top will last a lot longer than paper lanterns and could be hung or placed on a table, plus I think it will look nice even when not in use. It's £29.50 from M&S.

Silver and black bobble lamp at Cargo

Every time I see one of these bobble base lamps I think, must get one... and then don't. Cargo's take on it has been to give it a mirrored graduated base and finished with a black fabric shade. I imagine it would look rather dramatic in a dark boudoir. It's £30 at Cargo.

I really hope this type of lamp enjoys some longevity. The glass ball stacks have really captured my imagination ever since they started appearing a year or two ago and they are so much more interesting than a straight up-and-down lamp base, don't you think?

The purple base and black silk shade is on sale at £69.68 (down from £87.10) from Graham&Green whilst the equally elegant clear glass and organza shade is from Next for £40.
